The Clock Tower Area Experiences Double the Property Crime Compared to Downtown

Rockford has been plagued with a bad reputation for crime, and because of this, misinformation about safety spreads like a wildfire. There is concern from some citizens that placing a casino downtown would be a bad idea due to potential crime.

The proposed area for our downtown casino would be over two times safer than the Clock Tower area. In the vicinity of the Clock Tower, you have a 1 in 9 chance of being a victim of a property crime. Property crimes include burglary, theft, and auto theft. In the downtown area, including South Main, it is less than half as likely , with the likelihood being at least 1 in 18. The Clock Tower area experiences double the property crime that the downtown area experiences.

There are many Rockfordians who live, work, and play in the downtown area and know the negative stereotypes of the downtown area are simply a connection to the past some struggle to let go. The downtown is full of charming shops, trendy restaurants, and modern apartments and lofts. Our prospective casino location would create a major entertainment district that would add further momentum to not just the downtown but our entire city just as our seasonal downtown events do. Take Stroll on State and City Market, these events attract tens of thousands of people to our downtown year-round and their benefit has helped Rockford become recognized – regionally and nationally. Rock River West Casino Advocates see the downtown as the place to invest in the future of Rockford.
